The Wysing Collective Cambridge
The Wysing Collective, Cambridge
The Wysing Collective is based in Cambridge and London. We collect work predominantly by emerging contemporary artists, with a particular interest in artists working in the Eastern region of the UK. From the outset we agreed that we will look a lot, learn and have fun. Our journey is to build a collection of works by artists whose practice is critically relevant and interesting to us as a group.
To date we have found much of the work we’re attracted to reflects the interest in work made with found and everyday materials. As our group develops we are finding ourselves becoming more adventurous both with our taste and our budget. We attend private views regularly – from the leading London galleries through to artist-run spaces. We attend auctions and art fairs and in 2010 we visited Art Basel as a group.
The group was first formed in Summer 2009 by Annie Bacon and consists of a network of 6 households based in Cambridge and London. The group is the first of its kind in the Eastern region. Our affiliation with Wysing means we receive valuable support from the centre – including curatorial guidance and unique access to up and coming artists and their work.
